For those attending the University of Georgia, there are some fun and entertaining things to do in Athens during the holidays, IF you know where to look. This is a college community that abounds with vibrant events. Here is our list of four things to do in Athens during the holidays.
1. Deck the Walls at The Lyndon House Arts Center. If you or someone on your list appreciates original art, check out Deck the Walls. Now through December 31st. Deck the Walls is open each Tuesday – Saturday from noon until 5:00 pm. All items on display are original and each is hand-made and for sale. Even if you are not in the market, you can visit for free and appreciate the work of local artists.
2. Athens on Ice. Join fellow skaters at a full size ice hockey rink at The Classic Center at 300 North Thomas Street in Athens. The $12 fee includes skate rental and there are no discounts for bringing your own skates. Get a group together and schedule a private party!
3. Elf, The Broadway Musical. If you loved the movie, you’ll really enjoy the live Broadway Musical version of this modern-day holiday favorite. It’s the story of Buddy, a young orphan child who ends up in Santa’s gift bag and is taken to the North Pole where his toy making skills are not up to par. Elf, The Broadway Musical, can be seen on Tuesday, December 13 at the Classic Center with a single performance at 7:30 pm.
4. UGA Sports. This time of December is a great time to check out some UGA Sports beyond football including men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, swimming and diving, and women’s gymnastics. Winter sports at UGA is a great way to expand your entertainment options through the holidays.
